Try writing system file 93 by terminal and power the drive off/on just a few seconds before you send the write. Sometimes it's just getting stuck busy before the write actually happens but you can sneak it in after a power cycle.

Of the three boards to use to replace the 771961 I'd personally recommend you use the 771959 board. It seems to have the best compatibility. I've occasionally seen issues with the other two boards. Usually, they'll work, but sometimes they don't. The 771959 usually always seems to work.

It never hurts to scan the SSD with some data recovery software, but don't be surprised if nothing is found. Pretty typical if T.R.I.M. is working correctly.

Yeah, I'm not totally positive on the method of reading it out from the ROM. Most I checked using my method matched what I found in ROM with what Ctrl + L showed, but apparently, they don't all match.

SIM Error 1002 usually always relates to a bad defect list, such as a corrupt P-List. Though, given that it's also spitting out preamp errors, it could possibly relate to bad/weak heads.

You are going about this all wrong. First off, opening the drive and especially powering it on with the top cover removed was a terrible thing to do. The screw through the top cover often helps to stabilize the actuator assembly. So by running it with that top screw out, it probably sanded...

Just bear in mind that PCB replacement is not a fix all solution. Very often the problem lies elsewhere. We only track this info because we often must adapt from a USB PCB to a SATA one so we can interface with the drive and properly diagnose and repair the real issue using tools like PC-3000...

Yes, you only need to move the IC602 from the USB board to the SATA one to make it compatible. No need to touch the IC606. Just be careful removing/resoldering the chip. If you cook or break that chip it's game over for data recovery...forever!!! So you'll want to be sure whoever does it has...

You need to transplant the 8 pin ROM chip that's typically labeled IC602 next to it. That contains the drive specific configuration pages to make the PCB compatible.

I'm able to read the ROM code directly through the PCB in 99% of cases. It's very rare to need an external programmer. Usually, boot ROM code mode will work even if the PCB is bad. Is this a real case, or one you're just learning on? If it's actually for a customer you shouldn't be giving up...

Like I was first trying to tell you, that's often caused by a short-circuited read/write head. Try putting the donor PCB/ROM onto a working donor with the same head map and see if it'll spin up that drive. I think all your fussing around with the PCB was the wrong diagnosis from the start.

The cable does have a specific orientation always. Double check that the red stripe is on the right side as shown in the pictures in the PC-3000 manual. Then try it on another Samsung drive and see if your connection is working.

That's not a WD drive at all. That's actually an HGST drive.

Translator regeneration is very risky with Rosewood drives. Without a backup of the original service area, it might be just screwed now. At a minimum, it'll take a mountain of manual work to try and recreate the translator.

I think this has always been the big issue with Chinese made data recovery tools. I don't know if it primarily relates to communication being lost in translation or what, but the support is always useless.

I think there are certain HGST/Hitachi drives that PC-3000 can't properly read/edit the head map. Luke has posted some strange anomalies about this in the past too. If you really want to edit the head map you may have to figure out how to do it manually.

That's pretty big for a log file. I don't think I've ever seen one get beyond a few Mb size. Are you sure you didn't just forget to type in the destination path the second time you ran it? Perhaps you were actually imaging the drive onto the log file path.

Then you don't need any real tool to do it. Just need to find something to put in there to keep the heads separated when you pull them off the back of the ramp. You'd probably laugh if I told you what I use on a daily basis for this, but it works like a charm 100% of the time for me.

Toshiba drives are generally pretty easy to match for heads. Often you can get away with just matching the model, but if you post a picture of the label we can tell you other things that'd be good to try matching.

I think I just answered this on another thread, but anyway. Yes, I have both programs. Recovery Explorer is just a newer version of UFS Explorer which I think they've now abandoned for updates. It's got more features now and it's a lot more stable (no more random crashing like I had with UFS).

They are the same company and it's really the same program. UFS is just an older version that appears to be abandoned. Recovery Explorer is a newer version with more new features such as APFS support. R-Explorer also seems to be much more stable than UFS ever was. I highly recommend Recovery...

Correct The -f trigger is just needed since you're writing to a drive rather than a file. You must have used the -f trigger or ddrescue would have spit out an error and refused to clone to a physical disk. But, no it won't overwrite what you already recovered if you're using the same log...

Don't forget too, you might be able to use a different capacity drive as long as all heads are present. I've used 320Gb drives to recover 500Gb like that, just as long as it has all necessary heads. When matching across capacity the MLC will all match except for one digit.

We're only talking a couple hundred $$$. That's not a lot of money to someone already doing data recovery. You'd be surprised the money we spend on programs and things we don't necessarily need, but that makes our job easier or faster.

Is that actually reading/writing the ROM from the PCB though? Or just reading a system file copy of it? I'd assume that writing 32A back just using the F3 T>w32 command wouldn't actually alter the physical ROM.
