PC3K is hardware software based (if you don't know that already) If you don't have a hardware imager the best way would be - in case you have access to user data - to use cloning software Linux based ... dd, ddrescue, ddrhelp, or hddsuperclone, connected direct the computer (SATA).

if you have a station that's been used unly for PC3K + reliable DR soft. + not connected to the internet there is no need for scanning. need to have an image of it, the smallest suspicion and you put the image back, problem solved (at least that's what I'm doing)

I think it will be a good idea to image/clone you old OS defore upgrading just in case...
