This generally occurs when the CSV file does not contain the right encoding. I was able to address this issue by using Softaken CSV to VCF Converter, which has a UTF-8 encoding option and will retain all characters without alteration. It also allows for CSV previewing and field mapping prior to export to ensure that names, email addresses, and phone number are strictly as intended from the original file. After running the conversion, your VCF file will work seamlessly within Android, iPhone, Outlook, or any other contact app with contact fields expected from your original CSV. The benefit of using the software is that it allows accented letters, symbols, or other non-English characters to be exported correctly and no contacts are lost during the conversion processes.
