Hello Guys,

Please I need help with this drive, WD1001FAES-75W7A0 1TB Black.

When Powered on, It shows only [glow=red]ERR[/glow] on Register.
I got a donor Board, It spins the drive without native ROM, but I noticed when Native ROM is transferred to Donor PCB, it flags up the the same ERR error in Register.
but Drive spins up without the Original ROM.

Could the ROM be bad ?

Have you tried only the PCB? Can you read ROM with only PCB?

It could be a short-circuited read/write head. I know some models do a head resistance check before spin up. If the donor ROM has less heads, it might not be testing the bad head.

See if it'll spin up the PCB with the preamp blocked.

Also try reading the ROM via Boot ROM code and post it here so we can examine it.

You blocked preamp how by placing a piece of paper under pcb ? On head contacts

If blocking the preamp lets the drive spin up, then it eliminates the ROM as the culprit. It's probably a shorted out or open circuit head failing the pre-spin check.

Time to look for a heads donor.
