Hi

Got a Kermit WD.
It's a WD7500AAVS-00D7B1.

ROM:
Read Rom Infos : ...............................: OK
ROM Data Size : ................................: 192 Kb
ROM version : ..................................: 05.C2E
ROM generation : ...............................: 05.C2E
Link table version : ...........................: 04.3D

ROM Modules:
Flash ROM dir reading : ........................: OK
Switched off heads : ...........................: Yes

SA Module Dir Loading...
Load SA Module dir : ...........................: OK
Configuration reading : ........................: OK
Master Password : ..............................: has not been set
User Password : ................................: has not been set

Problem:
Original headmap is: 3,4,5,6,7
If it continues like that, it doesn't ID.
So I removed head 3 from ROM headmap. Now the drive ID's well, I can read full resources without any error.
SA tests fine, all modules OK.
But I can't access one single sector...

I think it could be because of translator not well initiated. But how to initiate it?
If I activate head 3 on ROM, it get's busy again. (This was an external drive that fell down...)

Any ideas?

Thanks

Did you try setting the headmap to something like 4, 4, 5, 6, 7 and just disabling head 3 in DE?

Hi

Almost for sure first head is weak/bad...That's why it stay busy. HM in ram and copy data with remaining heads.

Even if you change the headmap in RAM and soft reset it still won't ID?

With H3 enabled in ROM the hdd stay BUSY on normal startup, so he can't do HM in ram.

I don't remember to test it, but I thin that's right....
I will check it later.

Might be able to put a piece of paper to block the preamp, upload module 11 as ldr, change head map in RAM, remove the paper, and then try it. It might work or it might just get stuck busy again, but it's worth a try if you don't have a same family drive with the right head map laying around.
