Quick overview of common RC tryptamines (4-sub, 5-MeO and base tryptamines)

The tryptamine family in the RC scene is pretty large, but most of the compounds people talk about fall into a few recognizable groups. The biggest one is probably the 4-substituted tryptamines, which are structurally related to psilocin. This group includes compounds like 4-AcO-DMT, 4-HO-MET, 4-HO-MiPT, 4-AcO-MET, 4-AcO-MiPT, and of course 4-HO-DMT (psilocin) itself. Because they share the same core structure, they tend to produce somewhat similar psychedelic effects, though people often report differences in visual character, body load, and duration. Some analogs like 4-HO-DET and 4-HO-DPT show up less often but still get mentioned in older reports and chemistry discussions.

Then there’s the 5-MeO and base tryptamines, which are a very different part of the family. Compounds like 5-MeO-DMT, 5-MeO-MiPT, and 5-MeO-DiPT tend to have a stronger serotonergic push and can feel quite different from the psilocin-type tryptamines. The simpler dialkyl tryptamines also show up in discussions — things like DPT, DET, MiPT, DiPT, and occasionally EPT. Even though they’re all tryptamines, small changes in the side chains can change potency, duration, and overall character quite a bit. It’s interesting how such small structural tweaks around the DMT backbone can produce such a wide range of effects, which is probably why this family keeps getting attention whenever new analogs pop up in the RC space.
