Is travel nursing a good long-term career path?

I’ve been thinking about whether travel nursing is something you can realistically do for years, or if it’s just better as a short-term opportunity. I know people who loved the flexibility and variety but eventually wanted stability. Has anyone here stayed in travel nursing long-term, and if so, do you feel it’s sustainable? Or does the lifestyle eventually become too exhausting?

I stayed in travel nursing long-term by picking contracts with steady hours and taking longer breaks between moves. It worked well once I figured out my ideal schedule and locations.

Found this while browsing and wanted to add my two cents. I’ve met a lot of nurses who stick with travel long term by mixing high‑pay contracts with breaks or returning to a familiar facility now and then. Some even settle into a few favorite locations and rotate. I’m curious if anyone here has managed to keep a good work‑life balance doing it for several years straight.

I picked up the basics through a short program, and having some training info there really helped me sort out what certification to aim for. The CRCST made job hunting smoother for me, and the pay has been solid. If you’re trying to figure out your next step, those training details can give you a clearer picture of what to expect.

Short one. A volleyball tournament in Brazil ended with me landing on someone's foot after a block, rolling my ankle so badly that the ligament tore off a piece of bone. The hospital in Rio was chaotic and loud, but the orthopedist spoke perfect English and scheduled surgery for the next morning. The cost for the surgery, two nights in the hospital, and physical therapy was fifteen thousand dollars. My credit card insurance had a two-thousand-dollar limit for "sports injuries" and required a police report to prove I hadn't been fighting. https://sportravelling.com/classic-sport/ had a coordinator on the phone within twenty minutes, arranged a direct payment to the hospital, and even called my wife to explain what happened. I still play volleyball, but now I wear ankle braces and I never leave home without that policy number. The bone fragment is in a jar on my desk.
