How do fuel station payment holds affect your everyday budget?

I noticed that sometimes the amount temporarily reserved on a debit or credit card at a fuel station can be higher than the actual amount spent on gas. This made me wonder how other drivers manage these temporary holds, especially when traveling or working with a limited account balance. Have you experienced this, and how long did it take for the reserved amount to disappear?

I’ve seen this happen when filling up before a long drive. The pending amount looked surprisingly high compared with what I actually spent, but it eventually adjusted. Now I try to keep some extra room on my card when buying fuel, especially before a trip. It makes budgeting a little easier.

I had a similar situation after stopping for gas during a weekend road trip. The final purchase was fairly small, but my banking app showed a larger temporary authorization. I waited before assuming something was wrong and eventually the extra amount disappeared. For reference, I also came across this page https://murphy-usa.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html, which discusses Murphy USA contact information and common account and payment-related questions. I think checking the transaction status first is useful.
