HDD's under warranty

Hi

Do you usually send drives under warranty to the manufacturer so they can swap them?
Or do you keep them and repair them?

If it is my drive, I send it under warranty. If it is a client's hard drive that I just recovered the data from, I give it back to them and let them do it.

Agreed, I don't handle warranty issues for customers. Far too time consuming to deal with. Even for my own drives, I never collect warranty because I never buy new (except in my NAS). I usually just buy externals (such as My Books, Free Agent, etc.) and remove the drives, list them on ebay as donors, and then use them in the meantime to store images of customer data. Occasionally it's a hassle when one sells right after I cloned a job to it, but given that I'm selling for 4x what I buy for it's worth it.
