Can't access content of Toshiba external drive HDTC605EK3A1

Its light turns on when I plug it in, it gets detected by Windows, but I can no longer access its content. When I try to I either get an error message about device not being found or "You Need to Format the Disk in Drive Before You Can Use It". Of course, there's a notable lag before these messages pop up.

This only happened since yesterday I tried plug it in after 5 years of not using it. I plugged it in in a rather inclined position, maybe 30 degrees, and the disk started making some "struggling" noises. These noises stopped once I put it in a flat surface (my own hand) and then the content of the drive showed up on screen. I was able to browse it for a few seconds, but then the window disappeared as if I had unplugged it even if I didn't.

After that, I'm only getting what I have described in the first paragraph.

Is there a way I can fix that?

You could have a broken USB port. But you should get it checked but someone who knows about the business...
