Hello everyone,
i need to swap heads on a MQ04UBD200 patient drive.
I've a MQ04UBD200 donor drive, i need to know if in your opinion heads are compatible with the patient.
Donor drive is 37 months older than patient.
Donor Cyl num: 361612
Donor SPT: 3632
Patient Cyl num: 355807
Patient SPT: 3840
Hi everyone,
i have a MQ04UBD200 AZA AB01/JT000U drive (4 heads, 2 platters).
I've already cloned on head 1,2,3. Head 0 was very weak and it died before finishing to clone (remaining about 263.000.000 LBAs not cloned yet).
At the moment i don't have a 2TB MQ donor drive for head swap but i've a...
In MRT there isn't any option that let us check microjogs.
For that purpose, if you don't own pc3k, check mod 47 with MOD47Tool
http://www.hddoracle.com/viewtopic.php?p=4420#p4420
P.S.
Jared, i just find out that you've already insert this, but i missed it because you typed it wrong.
Wrong type
WDBMVW0020BBK-05 --> WD20NMVW-11AV3S2 (ShrekLT)
Correct type
WDBMWV0020BBK-05 --> WD20NMVW-11AV3S2 (ShrekLT)
I never seen a drive with such amount of bad sectors on which heads are still alive after more than 1 month cloning (24h).
I check sometimes heads if they get more weak in meanwhile by doing a short scanning on healthy portion of surface, they still read fast on those areas, so heads don't seem...
Hi Freddy,
thank you for the answer and i wish you a good new year.
This drive was never opened, the cover label is perfect.
Mmy suspicion is that they have changed something at rom adaptives level or on the service area, certainly not at the hardware level.
This drive has bad surface, this is...
P.S.
this is the drive which has SPT 1100 (strange)
post15289.html#p15289
I don't know if this SPT is normal or if is a mrt bug or the company has altered it somehow.
Hi and Merry Xmas to everyone.
I've helios WD10TMVW-11ZSMS0 which can read well surfaces on all 6 heads but in large zones they can't read well (black squares and slow reading) on heads 2-3-4-5.
I already did the slow issue fix and edited ID to stop reallocation and other stuff but it behavies...
I think in your case is possible to increase reading speed by changing AFH parameters and increasing current to preamp, but it is dangerous.
You'll need tools for this changings and know how.
My advice is to continue cloning until it works, without changing those parameters.
Look how this guy cleans platters.
Go directly to 1m 48s

Does someone of you know where to buy that cleaning tool or at least how's called?
It should be 82 F6, but wait for Jared opinion first.
Unfortunately Rosewood roms are more tough to study, also DonorDrives doesn't publish Rosewood preamp values, so comparing with those is hard work.
I've found another MRT bug in WD utility, this time related to Pinnacle Pata family.
Utility is not able to read ROM and SA.

Hello,
i've found a bug relative to Seagate Momentus 5400.3 (Venus family).
Utility is not able to read ATA overlays and reads ID incorrectly.
Watch the video on youtube also:

P.S.
This drive is perfect, i can read all user data on surface. I...
Hi Jared,
Hex Workshop is my favorite hex program because it has a good file comparing function (it marks with different colours the differences).
It has also the 'Data Visualizer' option which i docked on left panel of program window, when i have to deal with corrupted JPG files it helps a lot...
I uploaded a pic on my previous post after you replied, so i post it again
256 Kb size rom should be the same of first half 512 Kb rom, but it isn't.
Something is wrong in ROM!
As i know, PC3000 has a bug that does only 50% ROM backup from Hitachi ARM drives, also MRT has this same bug.
I don't know if acelab corrected this bug in last update, maybe yes and this would give a sense on why now you get full rom dump if you recently updated it.
I compared both NVRAM...
Sorry, i said NV-RAM but i wanted to say ROM dump.
Please, dump patient rom, if possible do it with eprom reader. Inside ROM should be two copies of nvram, those two copies should be identical if you compare them with a hex editor.
If i find differences by comparing them, then definitely would...
Have you solved this case?
If not, send me NVRAM to me so that i can check hex code inside. If i see corruption, i will fix it and send to you the adjusted nvram file.
After long time, i decided to reply to this thread to let all you know that i solved this case last year by using SHT.
With SHT i was able to do smart hotswap and then dump S and D list from factory copy on surface 2 and overwrite them on SA-0. MRT and Sediv don't have any option for SA-2...
I use Snap2HTML or Primitive Disk Indexer to generate file list.
Sometimes happens that many files can't be recovered (heads could die if we try to read not important files), in such case i prefer to send editable file list to customer, then he can tick which are the most important file for him...
Yes, it happened to me too with toshiba drives. I thought it was MRT bug but i see now that happens also in pc3k.
It happened to me also with a Fujitsu drive when i tried to read in PIO mode.
The problem appeared after i stopped to read in UDMA mode, i switched into PIO mode, then i pushed...
Have you read carefully my post?

Have you seen carefully my pics?
If you know the basics of electronics, you should know that you can choose where to solder the Vcc wire (pin 8 or pin 7 or pin 3).
I choosed to solder wire on pin 3 (there is a reason why i've...
Maybe wires are too long?
Once time i tried to convert usb pcb to sata by soldering wires but it was very unstable.
I solved that case by changing pcb with equivalent sata.
http://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?p=207502#p207502
MRT does support terminal connection in utility but it doesn't have any terminal window, so it's not possible to type commands.
Sediv has terminal window on which you can send commands, but doesn't support rom reading from toshiba yet.
I suggest to read my post for more details about rom reading/writing by com/eprom on toshiba (without unsoldering chip from board):
post8870.html#p8870
I have read that thread just now because you've posted the link :)
It is interesting, however i think i've post more details in this thread with my own research.
For example on that thread is not mentioned that is necessary to wait 7m 20s before that MCU will start communicating with serial...
Unfortunately there isn't a way to write rom on donor sata pcb via serial mode, but i'll explain you how to write it without taking off chip from donor pcb by using eprom programmer.
This task is hard, you'll need good soldering skills with classic soldering iron, steady hand, good magnifying...
I've played a little in last days with these toshiba pcb :)
I was able to read rom from native usb pcb in serial mode with MRT utility, it takes long time (1 hour) but it's the best way for those people who don't feel safe using hot air to pull out rom chip from board or if they don't have a hot...
ok, but you have written (doesn't seem to work) on the wrong line.
it should be as following:
Today afternoon i will try with G003235B pcb if does work as equivalent sata of G3448A and i'll let you know.
G3448A ----------> G003138A
just tried to swap with G003138A sata pcb, i can confirm you that it doesn't work
Drive heads do click like crazy and very loud.
G003138A MCU version match with G3448A MCU, however these pcb swap doesn't work.
I have portable version but until now i used only the Pixrecovery utility which is not bad compared to other commercial pics recovery software that i've tried.
The pixrecovery is pretty good on repairing those file that can't be opened, once you're able to open the file after using this utility...
I think you will be able to guess proper shorting time more easily if you use fingers instead using twizeers or switches.
Watch this video to understand how to do it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mrvo87WvF8
jump to minute 4 to find out directly how to do it.
All modules and tracks are physically ok, but if you open S-list and D-list of this drive with an hex editor, then you will notice that are full of data.
If you compare these modules with those of a healthy donor, you will notice that donor's S and D list have many patterns with 00 and FF.
Does...
Hello,
i've this drive and i need data, when i power on heads do click like crazy and it stay in busy state.
I was able to clone about 25% of surface with hotswap from good donor drive, but now i'm stuck because there are a lot of bad sector in surface and when heads hit them DE is not able to...
That's not really true, you could partially see folders and files structure if user forced to decrypt it while the drive was still working.
Probably his drive stopped to be detected while he was decrypting, this would explain partial FileVault decryption.
If you have FileVault encryption, follow this guide:
https://derflounder.wordpress.com/2011/ ... oot-drive/
for safety, do first clone the drive before applying decryption on Mac command line.
I had similar case few months ago, and i was success.
I used virtual Mac OS machine (El Capitan) for...
How to rip correctly decryption key from module 25 and load it into DE by using manual method.
Auto check method often doesn't work, MRT staff should fix this bug !!!

I think some DR technician do use oscilloscope to debug MCU output when is needed to rebuild lost ROM adaptives, IMHO.
However is not difficult to use oscilloscope, i even used it in electronic lab at school.
I had a ROM sabotage case too about 2 years ago, where my customer sent me his drive after he declined previous lab quote (they've quoted to him 890 €).
His drive was Barracuda 7200.11 ST3320613AS with PCB number 100504364
I found that hdd did power on with donor pcb (and its donor rom code)...
Probably there was dust on one head or on a platter (maybe not very clean room from previous labs), dust has been mostly wiped out by air flow in your clean bench (which it is probably cleanest than other labs bech) and by platters rotation airflow.
IMHO
I recycle healthy TVS diodes from PCBs who have suffered other damage to electrical level (eg MCU or burned VCM).
If i don't have any recyclable TVS i buy them on RS
12V TVS: https://it.rs-online.com/web/p/diodi-tvs/7103428/
5V TVS: https://it.rs-online.com/web/p/diodi-tvs/7103484/
Hi,
have you checked microjogs value in mod 47 ?

If the difference between patient and donor microjogs is greater than 300 then donor is not good.
If difference is less than 100 then you have a...
Hi
i post Python script to convert old MRT Seagate loaders (which have .LDR extension) into PC3000 loader format (which have .LOD extension).
Last MRT releases do create loaders in .LOD format as PC3000 does.

If i understood good, to clean platters from fingerprints is needed to find 3M Novec contact cleaner that doesn't leave a thin protective silicone coating, but i still not understood which one is good from 3M.
What about acetone?
Is all acetone good for cleaning platters?
Is needed to dry...

Thank you Jared for your answer.
My doubt is more about how to manually move heads outside the platters without damaging heads or surface.
Without using hddsurgery tool, we have to move heads manually outside the platters while turning them in counterclockwise direction.
I know that this...
The read and write differential pairs are identifiable as two thin parallel signal traces running between the HDA connector and the MCU. They are terminated in resistors at the MCU end. The read terminator connects across the differential pair, while the write pair has a resistor on each side...
Do you think this would be good to clean platters surface from fingersprints?

Where can i buy 3m Novec contact cleaner ?
Ciao irs,
i need to recover data from this drive, are you sure that command m0,6,4,0,0,0,0,22 will not destroy user data?
At the moment i can access to user sectors via utility, too much time consuming for clone it via utility though :(
Hello,
i've 7200.11 ST3500320AS-SD15 drive (Moose family) which few months ago my customer has sent to a DR in my country.
Customer didn't accept his quote, so "pro" DR sent the drive back to him, now the drive is in my hands...
Drive symptoms is that it's detect as 0 byte, but it goes ready...
Today i recovered drive WD5000KMVV-11BG7S0 (Shasta 3D family) with bad usb pcb 701675-004.
I swapped successfully with donor sata 771672-004 so you can add in the list that 701675 is compatible also with 771672.
;)
Reading via MRT utility is very slow, as i remember it reads at 4KB/s.
It happened to me to that i got partial access after translator regen on some 7200.12 drives.
I solved by clearing G-List and NRG List completely, then i did again translator regen with partial access fix in Seagate Doctor...
Hi, i have this old Toshiba drive with damaged PCB.
MK3017GAP, HDD2159 Q ZF01 T
PCB number: B36021752017
At the moment i don't have donor pcb for this old drive, but i can find it.
The problem is that i don't know which is the ROM chip of this PCB, does someone know which is?
I can't find any...
