Time to Brush Up on Drobo Data Recovery

You are right, Luke. Given that I'm likely never to see another Drobo, my price would have to cover the cost of the Pro upgrade plus the time to image 4-5 2TB drives and recover ~5TB of data. When the Drobo began going sideways, he managed to back up a lot of his critical data before it became...

Time to Brush Up on Drobo Data Recovery

I'm an idiot! I have just ReclaiMe Ultimate, not Pro. I will therefor not be able to recover the data if cloning the unhealthy drives and re-installing them in the Drobo doesn't fix the problem. I'm not advocating doing so -- that's something the customer will have to decide to do...

Time to Brush Up on Drobo Data Recovery

The drive marked by the customer as the failed drive has 47680 sectors reallocated and 17496 pending reallocation. Another drive, not identified as problematic, has 348 sectors pending reallocation. I'm imaging the latter drive first, then we'll see what success I have with imaging the...

Time to Brush Up on Drobo Data Recovery

Just got a Drobo case in: 5 x 2TB Seagate DMs. The user tried to rebuild the array but it crapped out part way through. He has a Unix and technical background and connected a DIY terminal to the Drobo to watch what it was doing, and found it just seems to stall at some point during the...

Should Seagate Face Class Action Lawsuit For Locking Terminal?

I wouldn't think a class-action suit would stand any chance. As far as I know, they don't warrant that the drive is repairable or the data recoverable and I'm not sure there is legislation that declares that it must be so. To be fit for use, I would think it just has to perform according to...

Acetone has worked really well for me. Just dampen part of a folded cleanroom wipe that has been folded to make a wedge shape and wipe from hub towards edge of the platter. It evaporates quickly so no need to wipe the platter afterwards, at least in my experience.

A couple of pogo pins, a piece of prototype board, a push-button switch and some epoxy and Bob's your uncle! I've been thinking of buying some pogo pins to make a ROM bed-of-nails so I don't have to unsolder the bloody ROM to write to it, so this would be a good use of the leftovers.
