Yeah, Google is favoring SSL, but it's not a huge boost currently. In fact, many have suggested that it's only enough to offset the penalty for the speed reduction caused by the SSL certificate.
But, I know in future updates they plan to scale up the favoritism of SSL and push everyone toward that. So it's good to just implement it now and be ready. Just beware that when you first switch to SSL Google will think it's a brand new site, so you'll drop off the map for a short bit. Just be sure that your old URLs all properly 301 redirect to the new SSL ones so you don't lose the backlink juice from any existing links.
