Wester Digital - Slow Imaging

I don't know if the 500gb 2.5" WD drive is affected by the slow responding issue or whether it's just other damage but is there a way of speeding up the imaging process? I've tried adjusting settings as per the manual but nothing seems to speed up the imaging rate. Currently it has taken a few hours to image about 10% of the drive on the first scan. It's forecasting an expected time of days rather than hours. I am using the Pro version.

You can use hddscviewer to get a visual of what it happening. If you can see a clear repeating pattern then it is likely a weak head. Does it have errors, or just slow? If you leave the skip threshold low do you end up with skip reset (a sign of slow responding). Did you use the analyze feature to get an idea of the drive condition?

If it is a true slow issue, then max out the cluster size. If this is USB direct mode then you can set it very high. If increasing the cluster size does not help the speed, then it is damage and not slow issue.
