Seagate ST2000DL001 Terminal

I cannot for the life of me get terminal to show up on this Barracuda LP Drive. Does anyone have any tips?

I'm almost positive that the issue is with the ROM here, but I can't mess with it unless I have terminal. The drive will work for about 5 seconds/detect on PC3k and DDI and then go completely dead.

I am tearing my hair out over this.

Have you tried reading the ROM through boot ROM code and programming another PCB?

I'm not able to get it to show up on a known good LP drive either. I'm either doing something wrong (likely) or Seagate has terminal locked down for this model.

This is one of the donor drives that I got, not the patient drive.

Hehe, try flipping the ribbon cable around so the red stripe is on the other side. ;)

The terminal adapter is in right but the ribbon is flipped.

Oh geez.

I will swear that I tried every cable configuration possible, but when I tried what you said it came right up. I feel sheepish.

I call it lawnmower syndrome. When you're a kid your dad tells you to have the lawn mowed when he gets back, and try as you might you can't get it started. Dad comes home angry that you haven't don'e your chores, and because of your protestations he tries the mower. First pull. Mower on.

Now I've got this in case anyone is interested:

I'm going to figure it out, but if anyone has any pointers they are more than welcome.

Pretty sure its media cache issue. You will need to find the right time to short. Probably just after calibration completes but before LED:BD error.

Just as an extra measure, I always read ROM to verify it is native. Pretty sure yours is native based on how much of terminal looks normal though.

Many, many thanks to Jared and hddguy. This was exactly the issue. ROM was native. Had to figure out the read short pins, after that it took a few tries to get the timing right but got right in after that.

Thanks again hddguy!
