Intel 5400S / SMI NVX658.00

Hello everybody!

I am new to the board and wanted to give a quick introduction. I own a repair- and data recovery company in Germany, we specialize in board level repairs and data recovery from nearly any device. I hope I can learn from this board and also help others when help is needed! :)

Today we got an Intel SSD 5400S SSDSC2KF256H6L in for data recovery. The drive does not ID at all. From what I can tell without schematics and a working donor, the drive gets power, however it is not recognized in the BIOS nor by PC3000.

I read about some DR companies claiming to be able to recover that drive but I am guessing there is a SM2258 variant of the same model out there which they are talking about.

So, does anybody have a clue on how to go on with this SSD?

Thanks and best regards!

What's the main controller chip of that SSD?

Also, welcome to the forum. :D

Hey,

only read your reply today. Controller name is SMI NVX658.00.
The drive is now back to the customer, but I am still interested in the possible solution.

Regards :)

I've never heard of that controller. You sure that's right?

If it's an Intel modified Silicon Motion controller it's probably not supported by PC-3000 at this time, so unrecoverable for now.
