WD Red BIOS Swap

Hi all,

I have a problem with my WD Red White Labelled (WD80EMAZ).

I plugged in the Hard Disk to a Running PC and then the Disk did not start up anymore.
It is a White Labelled so there is something with the 3,3v pin.

I tried to desolder some Stuff on the Sata Power Connector but it did not work out. So I ordered a second HDD. It is the same HDD.
I want to swap the BIOS now that the Index is not gone.

The problem is that I and some other people do not know for sure what the BIOS is on this Model.

You can see on the Screenshot the PCB.

I hope someone can say what the BIOS is that I can try out to swap it.

If you have some other Idea how spin up the disk again i open.

Best,
Daniel

The ROM (which you are calling BIOS) is the 8-pin IC directly in the center of your bottom picture with p/n 25xxxx

Hopefully you don't plan on using a single soldering iron for this job. If you've got irreplaceable data on this drive and if you're not experienced with working with this type of component, you may be better off sending this to a pro for a reasonably-priced data recovery. If you damage the ROM while attempting to pulling it off/reattach it, you're going to be looking at a much more expensive recovery.

Given that it's actually a rebranded HGST drive, if you cook that ROM, it'll be darn near impossible to recover the drive.

Judging by that nightmarish soldering mess to the left of the ROM chip, I'd say sending it out for the ROM transfer to be professionally handled is a very good idea.
