Problem with a WD10TMVW-11ZSMS0

Hi guys

Give me a hint on this:

I have this drive which is not recognized or even spin with the original USB PCB. The PCB model is a 2060-771737.
I have tested anothed USB PCB and it spins OK, no clicks.
I have tried a SATA PCB 2060-771692-005 which have a 512Kb ROM.
I wrote a ROM from a similar WD10TMVW drive, and the drive doesn't even spin.
I have wrote a ROM 256Kb on it, nothing.
I don't know what's the ROM version from the original one.
I was trying to access SA to get or regen a ROM to write.
What ROM should I write on the SATA PCB so I can access SA?
Thanks

Are you able to read the ROM from the original PCB through terminal or boot ROM? It could be that it's not spinning because of a shorted read/write head. If you place a piece of paper between the PCB and HDA you should be able to read ROM through terminal.

hi Jared,
check the label on the bottom of the HDA is on the spindle, we have found that the spindle motor may be different and the drive will not spin, in this case you will need another PCB donor with the same spindle model.

Hi Pclab
:(
you can check if you can find another Helios drive like a WD10TPVT-XXU4RXX that can be a good donor both for heads and PCB.

if you buy it check the spindle ;)

I will try to find one.
Thanks

PS Question: Can I write a 256Kb ROM on a 512Kb ROM and does it work?

OK, a ROM of 256 can be written on 512 ehehehe
I can get the drive ready now, but with the loader I can't access SA....

If you write smaller ROM you just have to add 256 Kb worth of zeros at the end of the ROM image file. I've done it before and it worked beautifully.
