So what happens when one device fails, goes bad, or is unavailable? Does the system have built in file redundancy to guarantee availability?

As complexity increases, the loss of a drive, device, or whatever element becomes less of a risk. Instead, the failure of the controller and loss of controller metadata become a concern. Also, how do you suppose undelete may work in this system?
