Where's the best place to check out villas in Dubai?

My wife and I are seriously considering moving to Dubai. We'd love to get a villa close to the water and enjoy that warm sea breeze year round. So I've been wondering, where can we check out housing options there? Is it worth flying out to look in person, or is there a way to see what's available from the US first?

If you've got the chance, it's worth flying out there and seeing it in person. Because what's in the pictures and what's actually there can be two completely different things. Like, maybe the photos were taken two years ago and nobody bothered updating the listing since then.
