Unusual Seagate Data Recovery Case ST3750630AS

This is an odd case. Had this Seagate 7200.11 model ST3750630AS drive come in. The drive is a bit twitchy, and does have some bad sectors. Overall though it was able to image just fine. Looking at the data though I find an anomaly. The beginning of the drive is all filled with random data. No MBR or partition tables to speak of, just random garbled junk data. However a quick scan does find the user partition just past where the recovery partition typically ends.

I pulled the drive from a Dell XPS desktop myself, so I know nothing was done to it outside of the system. I don't know if it was a virus that did something malicious like trying to write random data over the drive, or if the drive itself went haywire. The customer said it just randomly stopped working and wouldn't reboot.
