Staff augmentation for tech project scaling

Last year our team hit a wall when we suddenly had to expand features for a client demo, but the hiring pipeline was way too slow. We tried stretching the existing staff, which only led to burnout and delays. I’ve heard about staff augmentation as a way to temporarily scale without the hassle of permanent hires. Has anyone here actually done that, and does it really help with speeding up delivery while keeping the team sane?
