Hi

One question please:

If I got a drive with only one bad head (from a total of 4), I can read FW, Tracks, from head 1, isn't it possible to load the drive ID and read the other 3 platters?
Or do I always need a donor to smart swap?

If it's a WD you can usually jumpstart it.

Just disable the bad head in ram, soft reset, check if it ID's. Then set the head map back, soft reset again, and see if you can image it. Just beware of hard resets and power cycling it, or it'll likely crap back out.
