Modifying an Itinerary Mid-Trip

We are currently halfway through a two-week road trip across the Pacific Northwest. We were supposed to head towards the coast tomorrow, but the weather forecast looks terrible with heavy rain for the next few days. We are considering changing our route to head inland towards the mountains instead. Since we booked our remaining hotels and a rental car through a third-party platform months ago, how difficult is it to make these kinds of spontaneous changes while already on the road?

I try to only book places with free cancellation up to 24 hours beforehand for this exact reason. If your bookings are non-refundable, you might just have to eat the cost. Sometimes calling the hotel directly, even if booked third-party, works better than trying to change it online.

Making changes mid-trip can certainly be complicated when dealing with pre-booked packages or third-party sites. During a trip to Florida last year, we decided to cut our stay in Orlando short and head to the Keys earlier than planned. Because we had booked a bundle, modifying the dates wasn't straightforward on the app. We had to locate the travelocity phone number to figure out if breaking the package would cancel our return flight. It took some time to sort out the logistics, but we eventually managed to adjust the hotel dates, though we did lose the deposit on the original booking.
