How do you find genuine conversations on international networking platforms?

I've been trying to learn Spanish and expand my cultural horizons by chatting with people from South America. However, a lot of the social networking apps I try feel very transactional or too focused on dating. How do you all find authentic long-distance friendships online, and how do you navigate the cultural and time zone differences while keeping the conversation going naturally?

I use dedicated language exchange apps rather than general social media. It sets a clear boundary that you are there to learn. I practice Spanish with a guy from Colombia on Tuesday mornings before my shift at the bakery. The time zone difference is small, making scheduling easy.
