Corrupted Excel & word files

I recovered files
after the client make system recovery
Instead a backup
The problem
I have an Excel files, are opened
But garbled text
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good software to repair Excel files and Word files?
Or another solution

Open one good and one bad file in winhex and see if bad file have same header like good one.
If answer is not, then files can not be recover, they are previously overwritten with restore process.
