Canceled Pre-Orders of PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Edition Leave Fans Frustrated

Some fans who pre-ordered the limited-edition PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Edition are facing disappointment, with reports of pre-order cancellations surfacing. Sony’s 30-year PlayStation celebration includes a specially themed PS5 line reminiscent of the original console, featuring limited-edition PS5 consoles and controllers. This anniversary collection includes versions for the standard PS5, the PS5 Digital Edition, and the high-performance PS5 Pro, creating significant excitement among PlayStation enthusiasts.

However, issues with fulfilling pre-orders have marred the launch of the 30th Anniversary Edition. UK retailer Argos recently informed some customers that their PS5 Digital Edition pre-orders were canceled, leading to frustration among fans. Reports suggest that the Digital Edition, the more affordable version of the PS5 without a disc drive, is facing the most widespread cancellations. Social media has seen a surge of complaints from affected customers, though not all Argos pre-orders were impacted.

Similar problems were reported last month for the 30th Anniversary Edition PS5 Pro, where some pre-orders were also unexpectedly canceled. While Sony hasn’t provided an official explanation, fans speculate that limited stock may be to blame. The scarcity has led to exorbitant prices from scalpers, who have already listed these anniversary consoles for sale online at inflated prices. This has left some dedicated PlayStation fans considering whether to pay premium prices just to secure a 30th Anniversary Edition console.

For those simply seeking the new hardware, there’s a silver lining: the base version of the PS5 Pro, though sold out quickly on PlayStation Direct, remains available at various other retailers without similar pre-order issues. While it lacks the anniversary design, it provides fans with a new console option without resorting to scalpers. Fans hope Sony will respond to the high demand and consider restocking the 30th Anniversary Edition consoles.
