ST500DM002 with bad heads

Hey Guys

Just got one of these with bad heads (11 clicks and spin down and Servo Fail on terminal LOG),
I haven't opened yet to see the platters, but are these also the damn DM drives hard to do head swaps??

I wouldn't say they are hard to do the head swap, they just rarely ever work afterward. The heads are super sensitive, so even the slightest woops moment is game over. And even when you think it all went perfectly, it often just doesn't work. That's been my experience.

Fortunately you're only dealing with a 500Gb so it might not be too bad. I find that the 2Tb+ is where the issues really start. 3Tb forget about it.

This model is OK to work on, you just need to make sure donor is compatible.

Hey

The client confirmed the value and it's a go.
The pacient has a a date code of 13212 and the donor i'm trying to get have a date code 13225.
All the rest match. It's a good donor right?

Do you usually also "play" with adaptives on these modules or is it a normal swap?
