How to Read ROM Through Terminal on WD My Passport and Elements USB Drives

Could you clarify that? I am following the prompts in pc3000. Power drive off and plug in serial terminal. Power drive on. I don't get anything on the TX or RX lights on the terminal. Board is 771737 (Rev A). Connected with Samsung adapter. Does anyone have a pinout for the drive and the...

How to Read ROM Through Terminal on WD My Passport and Elements USB Drives

Can someone give me a quick hand with this. I think I have the serial adapter hooked up correctly and I have a piece of paper in between the board and drive. I still keep getting an error. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? Tried in BootROM mode and got the error below. Can’t identify the...

    Backing up HDD Resources

Continuing to learn on PC-3000, between recoveries I have been taking all the old hard drives that I have laying around and backing up the resources in case I ever have need for them. I noticed most utilities give the option of saving things to the HDD Profile folder or to the Database. Where...

    Top Secret Section

I think it's a good idea as well. I'm in the same boat as Larry. I don't feel I could contribute a whole lot of data recovery knowledge, but I would look forward to the day when I might be granted entrance. If keeping it private encourages the pros to share those "top secret" tips and tricks, I...

Yes sorry. That was my fault, I'm still new to expressing everything that pc-3000 is showing me. But yes, it wouldn't come ready when I powered on without an error (I think AMN). And then when I tried to access sectors, I got ABR constantly. Anyway, it was a success! Thanks!

So before attempting the hot swap, I tried the "Solve 'slow responding' problem" and then SA Translator regeneration. Drive came ready, I was able to read encryption key from mod 25 and view the entire tree in DE explorer. Saved all files except one jpg that had some bad sectors. Not a bad...

I did select to backup the SA tracks as well, but I'm not sure that all of them backed up. Any idea how many I should have? In the backup folder under "Tracks", I have from 0065 to 0256 (appears to be 2 copies of each, e.g. 0065_00.trk and 0065_01.trk) Is that what I need?

OK I'm using this drive as my "learn how to use PC-3000" drive because it belongs to a friend and he doesn't really care if he gets the pictures on it back. If I can recover anything, it's a bonus. So I copied the ROM from the USB board and wrote it to a compatible SATA board. I managed to get...

    WD Terminal in PC-3000

OK I figured out how to connect the terminal and was able to backup the ROM and the majority if the modules. What do I need to write to a compatible SATA board to use it with this drive? Just the ROM?

    WD Terminal in PC-3000

Can anyone give me a quick rundown of connecting a USB WD drive by Serial Terminal to PC-3000? Which serial adapter do I need to use? How does it connect to the drive? Which Pins? I'm brand new to PC-3000 so I'm just trying to learn this stuff. Many thanks in advance

    DDI4 on Ebay

You must get the super-secret Canadian pricing. My price list says $1850. Hahaha Either way, yeah it is a good deal. If I wasn't on the other side of the country, it would be sold already.

This is not my auction, but thought I would bring it to people's attention. I talked to the guy on the phone but he is wanting to do a face to face transaction to avoid Paypal fees on that amount. I don't know the guy personally and cannot vouch for him, so buyer beware. But you are near...

    Recover data from Iphone 6

Yeah I have done forensics for over ten years for federal government, private industry, and higher education. However, I just moved to a state that requires a PI license to do digital forensics. So until I go through that song and dance, I have had to take the forensics offerings off my web...

    Recover data from Iphone 6

Brand new member, first post, seems a little spammy to me......I could be wrong. Anyone have or used the Cellebrite UME Touch for recovering phones? I don't have one but have recently seen them on ebay in the $600-$900 range and wondered if it was worth investing in. I don't get many phones...

    M.2 Data Recovery

I obviously have not since I don't even have my PC-3000 yet, but to slightly hijack your thread, would you say the PC-3000 SSD is worth the extra investment? Have you been able to do a lot with it that you wouldn't be able to do otherwise?

    M.2 Data Recovery

I've used something like this (I don't know if this is the exact one I bought) to forensically image a working M.2 drive. I don't know if PC-3000 will play nice with it or not for data recovery if the drive is bad, but for around $20 it may be worth a shot...

After considering what Jared said about not having to solder ROM chips these days, I bit the bullet and ordered a PC-3000 from DeepSpar. I don't have it in hand yet, but probably will next week sometime. I'm sure it will be a long, slow road to learning to use it, but it was inevitable. :D

Thanks for the advice guys. A quick followup: With these drives, do you find it easier to switch the ROM to a compatible SATA board, or to solder a SATA header onto the existing board. I wasn't 100% sure if swapping the ROM to a SATA board would give me problems with the encryption (I'm...
