Feedback on logfile created by DDrescue

Ah I didn't know thats what it would produce, thanks for the heads up, I got to the stage of analysing the .dd file, it says it found 2 partitions, both of which it thinks are over 1TB, while the image itself is of a 500gb drive.. I will definitely check out R-Studio.

Feedback on logfile created by DDrescue

Hi guys, reporting back after using hddsuperclone (hddsc): It recovered just as much data as ddrescue, but I believe this is down to the nature of the issue with my drive: The drive seems to be healthy overall, but with the one critical flaw that it would become unresponsive if it tried in any...

How to Clone a Hard Drive With Bad Sectors Using ddrescue

I have to agree, cloning was unsuccessful due to the drive turning off/needing power cycle if trying to access the first %8 of the drive, so the new cloned drive wouldnt mount/boot. I had to format the new disk and write an image file instead. Hopefully I can at least recover something from this...

Feedback on logfile created by DDrescue

Thanks Jared, nah it really isn't worth it, I have my most important files backed up on other drives, I have another computer so this is mainly to avoid the headache of reinstalling tonnes of programs and potentially some saved files and presets/settings etc. I'm trying with hddsuperclone now.

Feedback on logfile created by DDrescue

Hi Jason, - First I checked the drive names; the damaged old 500gb drive = sdb the new 2tb drive = sda -then I exectued the following: ddrescue -f /dev/sdb /dev/sda nlog.log this gave the 1 error of size 500gb -then I restarted the system, deleted the log file (since it stated the whole...

How to Clone a Hard Drive With Bad Sectors Using ddrescue

Thank you Jared for your help. The drive is not an OS drive, but it did contain my windows documents and the majority of installed windows applications and other linked folders. I ended up using a boot CD with knoppix and a usb stick to store the logfile. I did a direct clone from the broken...

Feedback on logfile created by DDrescue

Hello, I recently attempted to clone my dying drive (500gb) to a new 2TB drive, by following Jared's tutorial here on this forum: how-to-clone-a-hard-drive-with-bad-sectors-using-ddrescue-t133.html The drive is not an OS drive, but it did contain my windows documents and the majority of...

How to Clone a Hard Drive With Bad Sectors Using ddrescue

Ah, so you cannot clone a drive to a partition, treating the partition as a unique drive.. e.g. cannot do /dev/sda to /dev/sdb1 I think that makes sense. The old/damaged drive does not consist of any partitions, just one space So considering I have just two drives, the old 500gb and the new 2tb...

How to Clone a Hard Drive With Bad Sectors Using ddrescue

Ok, thanks. Just to be clear, can I partition my 2TB drive (NewDrive) into one 510GB partition (A) and one 1500GB partition(B)? - so i do a 1 pass image of OldDrive to NewDrive partition B, where I also store the log file; - then I try the same DDrescue command but with a 3 pass trigger to...

How to Clone a Hard Drive With Bad Sectors Using ddrescue

Thank you for the fast response, the troubled drive is a "repaired" (old) seagate 500gb baracuda 7200rpm. It makes some strange sounds, sometimes boots if the computer has been turned off, but fails soon after boot and disappears from My Computer. The new drive I got is "2TB Seagate ST2000DX002...

How to Clone a Hard Drive With Bad Sectors Using ddrescue

A long time ago, I had an important hard disk fail on me, it was making bad sounds, I followed an online walkthrough on using DDrescue to clone the damaged drive perfectly. I've now had another failure and I can't find that walkthrough anymore.. but this looks great, I just have some questions...
