Google Adwords banned data recovery services

Same here in Germany now (started a few weeks ago) but some "big" companies are left in top position with ads. I hope google will clean this up (also some known scam ads are shown). But atm I am also happy with this change as these ads where a pip-off for smaller shops.

Help. Platter full of fingerprints, is there hope?

Don't trust that company, I think we all know what company you called. They also have drop-off points here in Germany and you will be charged upfront with around 600€ plus 300€ in case of success. We have many cases from companies like this for a second opinion and they always quote low compared...

    Manipulated WD Case

Not even kernal mode, the drive loaded the mod02 as it was not blocked. But SN and capacity was missing and setmaxlba failed because of that. Nice try :)

    Manipulated WD Case

Hi all :) just want to share a bizarre case I had today. Client called and said he was at a other DR store but it only was a drop-off point and he had doubts if he should leave it there. So he called us. He told me that the drive stopped working yesterday, could not be mounted but spins, leds...

Crazy case: WD Passport with lightning damage

Thank you all for your replies, these are the cases that make data recovery a interesting challange, no case is the same and you often have to puzzle to succeed  @Jared: Larry is right, my name is Martin :-) Platter swap on a Velociraptor? Did it suffer overvoltage, lightning damage...

Crazy case: WD Passport with lightning damage

Hi all, I just had a crazy case with lightning damage that was driving me nuts. Drive looks like: First I read ROM in external reader and burned it on a compatible pcb. The drive was checked in our lab and inside it looked great except the molten filter that was replaced. With new PCB...

    New update is out!!!

@Amabir: That was my hope too. I get more and more of these drives with fw issues, just had one with stuck heads. Imaged fine up to 50%, hit a bad sector and gets bsy  But the new update has some great features like blocking SA on WD when convert to sata. Thats a time-saver for me, or...

The Reason Why People Hate Data Recovery Labs

Today I was hit too by a sabotage case where a customer send me a Seagate 500G drive in for a second opinion (quote was more than 1400€!). Drive was dropped by the client. First I was happy to see that the drive was opened by the competitor because we see many cases where a analysis fee was...

    AU6984 A53-MHL-GR Transcend USB 8GB Help Required

Hi Amabir, have you tried the read retry options (create map, create submap of uncorrected, reread)? Also try lower voltages, might improve reading. On some Samsung NANDs I get better reading results by heating the chip. See also here: http://blog.acelaboratory.com/pc-3000-f ... adout.html...

    Corrupted data

We tell our clients that we recover what is possible but that media damage or bad blocks will lead to a data loss of some kind. If damage is severe we tell the client that we might not get a great result.

New unstick tools 200$ set 21 metal parts

We ordered one set and it arrived today. Looks pretty good to me, well made no residue on it and well packed. I tried one on a bad momentus and it worked well. I will have to test the tools on some donor drives and do a surface scan afterwards but i think these tools are fine. One difference to...

Broken Gimbles [ How To Remove From Platter ]

Hi Amabir, Do you mean the gimbal or slider stuck to the platters? I just finished a case of a Seagate green 2 TB that was dropped badly and 5 out of 6 sliders were left on the platters. It was a fun job to remove these  but managed it using one of the ER-Tools for WD drives. We...

    Remote Flash Recovery

In my opinion Flash is very different from HDD recovery and one can not compare RAID recovery with the complexity a simple thumbdrive can have. We do not get many cases for flash but if someone is willing to pay for it it turns out its a difficult job (dynamic xor, unknown / not typical...

    WD My Passport Not Encrypted

Might be these drives came from a batch that should be sold in countries that have laws prohibiting data encryption but reached the international market instead. There is also a "gray market" where drives with limited warranty / no warranty / OEM are sold and so on. We also see these not...

    WD5000LMVW-11CKRS0 HSA swap

Hi, I currently have one of these drives here for recovery. I have not seen them much but with this one I have a problem. Head 1 is not reading any data but drive IDs and gets RDY. I first converted to sata, unlocked SA, checked modules (all fine) and imaged head 0. Next step was a headswap...

WD My Passport Pro - Two Drives

I had some of them here for recovery, clients messed with their RAID-0 config and did a quick format. I think the default config with these drives is RAID-0 for video editing :o But most of the data was recovered

    Hello from Germany

A warm hello from Germany to the forum members. I own a DR company in Germany and do physical data recovery quite some years now. In the beginning we did computer repairs and server administration just like some other guys here in the forum but we got more and more requests for data recovery...
