    ST2000VX000 heads

I have a ton of DM donors in house right now so I REALLY don't want to order a VX drive to replace head 2. I have everything imaged except for that head. Anyone know if I can use DM heads on a VX drive? If not I'll order the dumb donor, but otherwise I'd love to use the stock that I have.

    ER-Tools review

I got the full set a couple years ago and I've loved it. It was between ER and hdd surgery (a difference of several thousand dollars) and I went with ER. I only get sad when I have a drive that doesn't match and have to use cut up sudafed medicine blister packs instead.

Good Software or Hardware Tool For Field Acquisition

Yes, making a bin image with DDI FE. When I plug the drive in, it can't see the bin file at all. I have to look at it with r-studio or something like it so get the image out usually.

Good Software or Hardware Tool For Field Acquisition

Bah, I hate that. Anyways, Paladin from Sumeri Forensics is a good bootable forensic imager. Good for PC and Mac. gotta be quick on the draw though with some bootup menus :D Speaking of forensic imaging, does anyone use the DDI forensic addon? Whenever I do to make a DD of a drive the...

Good Software or Hardware Tool For Field Acquisition

I know I'm late to the party. But how'd it go? I have tons of tips for you depending on the state of the drive. You're likely done already, but I'm just wondering.

Does Model Matter For WD LDR?

You're saying Model and capacity don't matter. But I'm guessing that family still matters? EDIT: I'm asking if anyone has tried a matching ROM F/W version from a different family.

    Seagate ST2000DL001 Terminal

Many, many thanks to Jared and hddguy. This was exactly the issue. ROM was native. Had to figure out the read short pins, after that it took a few tries to get the timing right but got right in after that. Thanks again hddguy!

    Seagate ST2000DL001 Terminal

Oh geez. I will swear that I tried every cable configuration possible, but when I tried what you said it came right up. I feel sheepish. I call it lawnmower syndrome. When you're a kid your dad tells you to have the lawn mowed when he gets back, and try as you might you can't get it started...

    Seagate ST2000DL001 Terminal

    Seagate ST2000DL001 Terminal

I cannot for the life of me get terminal to show up on this Barracuda LP Drive. Does anyone have any tips? I'm almost positive that the issue is with the ROM here, but I can't mess with it unless I have terminal. The drive will work for about 5 seconds/detect on PC3k and DDI and then go...

    WD Board Swap Question

Alright Everyone I wrote the Patient ROM onto the donor board while it was attached to the donor. Turned off the donor, swapped the boards, so now the donor SATA board is on the patient drive. That drive now detects as a hubble family drive (same as the donor) and it wants to open the utility...

    WD Board Swap Question

maybe this is an inexperience with PC3K (In fact I'm sure that it is) but I've got the ROM off of the patient drive. Do I put the ROM onto the donor board while that board is still on the donor drive or do I do it when it's on the patient drive (probably not the latter, but the first option...

Exactly. Encryption is handled differently for different versions of android, different models, and different manufacturers. I was Interested so I could research what specific circumstances apply to this phone.

Hi all! I spent forever trying to get the USB to Sata conversion on the same board working (non customer drives) but I haven't been able to get the ground working so I could get the drives to come up. I gave up and decided to work on the board swap method instead. I have the 701675 board...

Data Recovery From Galaxy Note III

I know that this is super late, but for future reference here we go! Phones are tricky due to the inability to writeblock, the need for exploits to get as pristine a dataset as possible, and the added need sometimes of rooting and the Android 4.4.4 update made them even trickier. You are unable...

    iPod Data Recovery

You'd use the same thing that you'd use on an iPhone. Since we do dual digital forensics and data recovery we generally use the Cellebrite UFED or AccessData's MPE for those types of jobs. Stuff like BlackLight should work as well. What's going on with the ipod?

How You Got Into Data Recovery

Hi all! I'm brand new in this forum and I think it's pretty stellar. While working in digital forensics I thought 'Hey I could probably use all the knowledge I had from that field and apply it to data recovery!" That was in 2010. After clawing my way for 5 years now I've become what I...
