The future of data storage

As complexity increases, the loss of a drive, device, or whatever element becomes less of a risk. Instead, the failure of the controller and loss of controller metadata become a concern. Also, how do you suppose undelete may work in this system?

ReclaiMe software

Not likely. Exotic devices and schemes are not economically viable for us to work with. There are too few cases to pay off the research and equipment.

Re: 10 Drive RAID 50 XOR Set Separator

Let's say we have three drives, two groups of three disks. Each three disks form a RAID5, and there are two of them, left side and right side. Each RAID5 has three columns. left - right A B C - D E F 1 2 P - 3 4 P 5 P 6 - 7 P 8 P 9 10 - P 11 12 where A B C D E F denote disks, P is parity Disks A and...

Re: 10 Drive RAID 50 XOR Set Separator

We have an entropy analysis in our ReclaiMe Pro which you can use to sort drives by columns. That is, if you have a 6-drive layout, with drives ABC-DEF, it will tell you that drives A-D, B-E, and D-F are in the same columns in the disk order (but does not tell you which is left our right side). Effe...

What does modern data recovery software lack?

Hi everybody. We all know that there are many vendors developing data recovery software. This software is designed for the same kind of task and generally performs similarly. However, it is not a secret that most of you use several data recovery software rather than stick to a particular one. This i...

Re: Lacie 6TB Network RAID

Ah, "basic" JBOD is perfectly possible. I somehow imagined you found a Windows dynamic disk metadata on the drives.

Re: Lacie 6TB Network RAID

Any chance these are just a drives from Windows PC, not from the original LaCie system? I would be much surprised to see a plain Windows JBOD/Span in what is supposed to be a NAS. I would still check for some remnants of a RAID5. Just for the case someone plugged drives into Windows machine and made...
