Confirmed! Sabre 53 and Sabre 58 are cross-compatible for heads. :D For Sabre 53, what about replacing deffective double headstacks (with both upper or lower heads), with good single headstacks (with only upper or lower head). Hello to everybody, I would to know if you had some previous experiencies from Sabre 53 models head swapping. It appears that for the same capacity hard drives (40 GB), Western did used head stacks with only upper head or lower head, but also head stacks with both upper and lower heads. Any success ...

Any success with the old WD400BB-xxxxxx drives?

Hi to everyone, Does anybody remember some success cases with the old-good-times WD400BB drives? (or should I say the old-bad-screw-case-times WD400BB drives?, We all know about that evil headstack assembly screw on the cover, but that is another story...) I am trying to do a head swap for a WD400BB...

I am Juan Carlos, electronic designer.

PC-3000 or another specialized tools will need to wait unitl next year, but in the meaning time, trying to learn basic procedures, like PCB swaps, EEPROM reading/writing,etc.

Actually, experimenting with lots of donors of the WD400 family days.
