How to Clone a Hard Drive With Bad Sectors Using ddrescue

Btrfs, zfs, anything with compression can be very helpful if working with a nearly empty drive....

Especially if you're going to have a few copies to play with while it's slowly scraping more data...

How to Clone a Hard Drive With Bad Sectors Using ddrescue

Seems the best approach is to write images, make copies, experiment with files system checks, etc and mount offset loops... Way less hardware needed and headaches needed...

But I understand it has its place. Sent from my S-Off'ed HTC One... ^^what he said. How many cases do you deal with? 1?? If you deal with several cases a month, you will see that a one-click decryption option is a great improvement of time... Yeah, or if you deal with several cases a day like I do,...

I was quoted $8000. I read that pdf and was done the same night. And I did mention Pc3k has its place. But i couldn't justify spending $8k on the spot for 4 hours of typing and reading. There's people that do that for a living @ $8/hr. Effort is a dying and disappearing skill in this day and age. Se...

Little hdparm poking, reading that pdf, , 1/2 a fifth, I got it.

Pc3k was way overpriced to do this task. But I understand it has its place.

I hear these encrypt the data regardless of settings when using the USB bridge.

I just did some sata connector Frankenstein work, bypassing the USB bridge.

Do i for see a guaranteed headache ahead?

Those would be slick, but traditional raid 5 and the write hole, combined with silent bit flip.... No, I wouldn't trust it. Btrfs mirrored with Metadata plus data scrubbing, or zfs pool, raidz3 too... Shuffling 2or 3 copies of 4tb images doing file system modifications can get piggish quick. I alway...

Toying with data from clients devices, I've ditched raid 5 with traditional file systems, and use something with scrubbing/bitrot detection. I had raid 5 with ext4, but no way to check against data. So I moved to zfs... I feel a lot better. Those would be slick, but traditional raid 5 and the write ...
