Sounds like you're original HDD is having issues. Probably is a hardware failure.

What type of drive is it? What was the original issue that prompted you to ddrescue it?

I wouldn't do a full scan without first cloning the drive.

Rather than scanning it, just double click the partition that show as NTFS formatted and see what it shows in the file tree

It looks like that drive is nominally functional. So I dont think the firmware update bricked the HDD per se. I think there's a few possible things going on here. It could be an issue relating to sector size. Being a 6Tb drive, the sector size is no doubt 4K. But, the drive likely has the ability to...
