In my experience, 95% of the time those Seagate drives have the scratches in the middle or the inner edge not the outer. Looks like it's a just an extended parking ramp to lift the head before it reaches the outer tracks. So I can't see why it wouldn't work in cases where the heads crashed at the very edge and scratched the outside edges.

Usually, I've found that just cleaning everything really good before putting the replacement heads in is usually the key.

Dolphin has a demo video for these custom ramp tools now. Their site says "out of stock".

Well,
I have seen very many hdds with scratches on outer edge ,mostly its under the tiny extended ramp on platter surface and poses no problem to drive operation .The concept presented here is good with the fact that i can now inspect platters that are in a multi platter stack
