Recovering a LaCie d2 0.5TB Big Disk Extreme

Hello,

I am trying to recover data from a LaCie d2 0.5TB Big Disk Extreme.
Basically the enclosure contains 2 Western Digital Caviar SR drives
of 250 GB each, and also a controller board.

Question 1 :
I have a NewerTech Voyager SATA drive dock that allows to
easily connect bare hard disks to read them, but the disks
I recovered are PATA.
What's the easiest way to be able to connect these drives to
my Mac workstation to read their content ?

Question 2 :
Last time this drive worked, it looked as one single volume - I guess
some type of RAID.
Is it possible to connect each disk separately, and to access data
from each disk or not ? The volume was formatted for Mac OS X.

I hope it's clear...

Thank you,

Michael.

Regarding Q1 :
I am going to buy for ~25 US$ a LogiLink AU006D
which is a USB to IDE/PATA and SATA adapter.

Regarding Q2 :
I don't have the answer.
Anyone with experience in this matter, please help !
Will I be able to read the data from each disk
connected separately ? With a special software ?
Or is it strictly impossible ?
Thank you.

Hi Michael. Whether you can access the data from just a single disk depends on how it was originally RAID'ed together. If your original size was 500Gb then it's most likely a RAID 0 which means the data is striped across both disks. So you'd need both drives to destripe it.

Software such as R-Studio or UFSExplorer can do it, but you need to know what you are doing too.
