PC3OOO UDMA unusual behavior

Hello,

I am facing issues with my pc3kudma board sata0 port. Some times the drive don't get power, some times drives keep restarting and WD drives when connected doesn't get ID and capacity but works fine in sata1 port.

I have no electronics background to diagnose the issue, but can use multi-meter and take readings if anybody can guide. Also if anybody can share schematics if available.

Kindly help to get this problem sorted out.

I thought maybe power supply is faulty, so took below readings

16.63V on 12V (Yellow Wire)
7.09V on 5V (Red Wire)
4.84V on 3.3V (Orange Wire)

Are these fine?

16.63V seems suspiciously high. I'm only reading 12.14 on my 12V line with or without a drive attached.

Before you do anything crazy like start soldering on your PC-3000 power board, perhaps you should check your computer's power supply. Maybe it's going haywire. I know I've learned that it's worth the extra $100 to have a really good power supply when running such expensive equipment.

And where are you getting those values?
On the connectors directly from the PSU or from the connector from PC3000?

Yeah, you should only have 12v there.
Maybe a bad PSU and not a bad PC3000 card.
swap PSU and test.

Can weak battery of multimeter cause these readings?
Sometimes it can... Or a not so good quality multimeter...

It was weak battery which was showing these awkward results. Now after replacing battery of my DMM, readings I am getting is on the dot. 12.14 and 5.12 for 12V and 5V. So PSU is OK.

Sometimes the terminals of the molex plug get too loose.
Try to tighten them to make better connections.
