Need donor for ST3000DM001

So the PCB or ROM is faulty, or you perhaps have incorrect COM settings. Even if the heads are bad you should be able to read the ROM. Have you viewed this DFL video on how to read and write RON on Seagate DM series drives? If you followed the procedure correctly and had the correct COM settings then it would seem the PCB is faulty. I would get a replacement PCB and write the ROM you read using the external reader. Let us know how that goes. Good luck.

I think he means that cannot check for preamp details unless he does it on a hex viewer, right?

[post]12147[/post] That drive has a preamp version D2 07
And how do you know??
Inside privilege?? ahahhaahha
Yup...I wrote the preamp details on the top cover, after I added it to the inventory. Sadly, the other drive I have listed has the B7 04 preamp, but I just used it and it would appear that the donor heads did not survive.

I suspect that the D2 and B7 preamps are interchangeable with this model of drive, but wouldn't waste a drive testing it unless I had no other option.

I see that the drive is also listed here - http://www.donordrives.com/catalogsearc ... 0DM001+z50 and one can only assume that they'll verify the preamp version.

[post]12151[/post] As Luke mentions, and you can see here, we have used D2 for B7, but there is no guarantee, your mileage may vary :)

Its like gambling :) BTW I think your page is down
