If there's platter damage it would be very very hard or impossible to do. Need to know what drive is and where's the damage.

There are several topics all around the HDD Forums about this. What's your question in specific?

First you need to check if the drive is in good shape or not, or if it is only a logical issue. You can use VictoriaHDD for that. If it starts to show physical issues, you should image the drive, for instance, with HDDSUPERCLONE, and only after that, use data recovery software to get the data back.

For the price that a 240GB SSD costs now, I think you should swap the HDD for a SSD. It will make your laptop work a lot better, and yes, most probably your drive is bad, even if that log only shows 6 bad sectors (which I doubt).

AFH is a way to change head temperature value and it can improve reading speed.

AFH is still not available, but that could help. The update should be out in the next few days.

What tools do you have?

It really depends on the problems that your drive have. Any specific situation?

You can try to run a demo version of UFS or Rstudio and see if you can find any data
