yes. I have done a lot of these. Usually they combust in a blaze of glory. 15k rpm, 2.5 inch platters... run hot as hell. the bearings wear out, as long as they are spinning they keep working. but once you turn them off you cant restart them - too much wobble. The gyroscope keeps them...

I take a piece of stiff paper like a business card. cut it into a strip fold back on itself about 1/4 inch from the end. slide it between the platters rotate until you feel the head a little gentle tugging and it will pop off. lintless paper is good
