They forgot another key feature: in event of failure, no Data recovery fees! (coz you are S.O.L)

Probably just uses a WD USB drive with an asic front end that manages the PWs and access. If the drive pukes, it might be repairable and data recovered provided the front end hardware/firmware is not toast. Just like a MyPassport with a user PW entered using WD Smartware.
