Hitachi P/N: 0A38016 hard drive broken.

This was in an external hard drive which had a fall a while ago and stopped working I have got a USB dock and connected it to my laptop however the hard drive is not showing up. When it is connected it makes a few noises at first and then stops. I cannot see any obvious damage to the circuit board but I'm no expert and I don't want to open the drive up to check for damage in there as I don't know what I'm looking for and I don't want to cause any more damage. Is there any other ways to recover the files myself or will this have to go to a specialist?

The damage will not be to the circuit board, it will be to the internal components, namely the read/write heads which are extremely sensitive to damage from drops.

I'm afraid it's beyond DIY now, you'll need a clean room and specialized equipment for the recovery. Is the data worth ~$700 to you?
