Greetings

I searched the net and couldn't find a suitable head change tool for Seagate BarraCuda Compute ST1000DM010-2EP102 drive. It is a single platter 1TB drive with the heads resting on the platter. I sent a mail to apex tools but just now to be certain but they don't seem to have this particular tool.

Anyone has changed the heads on this drive? Can you direct me at the type of tool you used?

Thanks in advance

I certain those heads don't park on the platters. There must be an orange parking ramp, that's where all modern Seagates part the heads. If the heads are resting on the platters it's because they became stuck.

Once you unseize it and get the heads back to the parking ramp, it should be easy enough to find a piece of rubber you can gently put between the heads and take them out.

I have double checked but the heads certainly park park on the platters in this model. I may have written the model number in a wrong way. I have attached the photos of the label and inside of the drive.

Ps. Apex Tools said they did not check this drive yet

Well, I'll be.... I guess Seagate is going back to this old catastrophe of design on some new drives. Haven't had one of those show up here yet.

There are some DIY tricks if a tool doesn't exist, but I don't know how well it'll work on such a new drive. I'd bet just spinning the platters to move the heads to the outer track will destroy them on such a new drive. Maybe someone else has experience on this family they'd like to share.
