Find The NSA Code Challenge

Tue Feb 17, 2015 1:27 pm

Some of you may have read this article: http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/02/ ... ce=twitter
In which Kaspersky claims to have identified hidden SA code in common hard drives used to gain remote access to computers. So here's my thought, let's make this into a business opportunity. I know a ton of high security firms around the world would pay top dollar to now have all their company drives checked for this hidden code (especially after we tell them about the security issue). We could all make a fortune doing on site corporate hard drive "cleaning".

So I challenge all of you to find where the code is hidden (at least in WD drives). Think you're up to the task?

Section 10 of this article seems to have some clues: http://25zbkz3k00wn2tp5092n6di7b5k.wpen ... nswers.pdf

Looks like it starts as a virus capable of sending vendor specific ATA commands to different drives where it can implant its self.
